LABORATORY FOR CRITICAL LANDSCAPES AND URBANISMABOUT    PUBLICATIONS    DESIGN RESEARCH    TEACHING
LAR 4134 is structured to both introduce incoming MLA students with no Landscape Architecture background to representational techniques and theory, as well as provide space for undergraduate students to sharpen their skills through an intense and focused inquiry.

The semester long project is centered around an intense interrogation of a chosen site and/or condition at several scales. The intent is to use representation to decipher and uncover aspects of this multi-scalar landscape through the acts of drawing and modelling.

This is done with the intent to introduce students to the notion of ‘design representation’ (an inquiry or communicative act of affective information) as opposed to ‘picturing’ (a mere image of form).
